Farheen Nawaz
Artist bio (Painting + Mixed Media )
Farheen Nawaz, born in 2001, is an emerging artist based in Lahore, Pakistan. She earned her degree in Painting from the College of Art & Design at Punjab University in 2023. Specializing in painting, Farheen demonstrates a strong mastery of brush strokes and creates delicate, repetitive shapes inspired by South Asian miniature art. However, her work is best categorized as contemporary art. Farheen has actively engaged with Lahore’s vibrant art scene throughout her artistic journey. She has showcased her work at venues like the Anna Molka Gallery, Alhamra Art Center and participated in group exhibitions at Kaleido Kontemporary, including “Small Works,” “Neo Wave,” and her own group show titled “In Between Lines.” She also contributed to “Visual Dissemination” at Ocean Art Gallery and “Broadcast Vol 1” at O Art Space, further establishing her presence in the contemporary art community.
Artist statement
As an artist, Farheen specializes in creating mindscapes — personal retreats within her artwork where she finds solace and liberation. Instead of meticulously planning compositions beforehand, she trusts her imagination to guide her, allowing the scenes to unfold naturally as she works. Her creative process is intuitive, leading her to subconscious realms where her innermost thoughts and desires are reflected.
Her inclination toward escaping reality stems from her struggle to remain present in the moment. As she grapples with this challenge; she finds herself conjuring fictional scenarios in her mind. Piece by piece, she weaves together fragments of real-life imagery and thoughts, constructing a world that exists solely within her imagination.
She has developed a unique technique characterized by repetitive strokes, particularly of leaves and plants. This method serves as a means of translating her scattered thoughts into visual form. As she layers stroke upon stroke, disparate elements merge to form cohesive, visually striking images. Through this process, she transforms fragments of her inner world into tangible works of art, inviting viewers to explore the landscapes of her mind.
